The Bealtaine Festival takes place in May in a variety of events and venues all over the South of Ireland. It is a celebration of the creativity of the older age group. Skibbereen Retirement Village sent an invitation to Newry U3A to come and join them in their event – displaying their art and craft work.
On Monday 2nd May 2011, 8 members of Newry U3A went to the Skibbereen Retirement Village for a 3 day trip to contribute to the Bealtaine Festival. They brought with them a variety of their own art, craft and jewellery items and shared ideas and techniques with the residents.
Our chairperson presented them with a carrickmacross plaque ‘Bless This Home’ and our chairperson was presented in turn with a pictoral volume of Skibbereen history. This event brought into focus the idea of outreach and whether Newry U3A should be more involved in similar activity. (Click on any photo to enlarge it.)
