Imagine how you would feel if you found something written by your great-grandmother describing what life was like for her. That’s what this group is for – not to publish your own life story but to be able to pass on to your grandchildren a sense of their own identity and who they are with an account of the life and times of you and your family growing up. You can write about yourself, how you worked and played,
what your teachers, aunts and uncles were like, maybe include your family tree, whatever. Life has changed faster in the past 50 years than at any time in history, and your grandchildren will be amazed to read about your life and times – everything from the slaps at school, how you amused yourself, what life was like before television, even before electricity!

But I can’t write! That’s what you think. People discover just how well they can write once they start. You don’t have to be a Shakespeare in order to jot down the memories that strike you. At each meeting, people bring what they’ve written to the group and read it aloud – and when you listen to what others have written, you’ll often be surprised at how it sparks off more memories for you and you want to go home and write more. People often say, “And I thought I had no memories to write about!” All you need is a willingness to put pen to paper and we’ll give you lots of ideas to keep you moving.
