Gardening

1st & 3rd Tuesday of each month 11am to 1pm in wherever we can find a space to meet!

A fun approach with contributions from all levels of expertise. You don’t have to have green fingers

Contact:   Shirley Milligan/Margaret McArdle

Next meeting will be on Tuesday 1st May at the Alderside Farm Allotments, Armagh Road (turn sharp left immediately after the railway bridge opposite Mullaghglass School)

=========================================================

The Tuesday 17th April meeting at the Allotment saw the completion of digging and manuring,  and the next meeting (as above) should see some planting being done.  Pak Choi and other seedlings are being nursed along in the very attractive large communal shed.

==============================================================================

On 20th March we met to share cuttings etc. and to firm up plans for trips – with Bloom in particular proving again to be very popular (as the bus is now full).

=====================================================================================

Following the Winter Break we met on Tuesday 6th March 2012 and held a ”Seed Swapshop”.

Seed packets galore!

Preliminary plans for visits to Hillsborough and Bloom in Dublin were discussed, and everyone was brought up to date on the current developments at the allotment.

Shirley toasts the new season!

In the meantime why not think about how you could have your own vegetable plot for only £5 a month.  The produce you grow should easily more than cover what it would cost you in the shops. You would also benefit from the camaraderie and mutual assistance of other members in adjoining plots, not to mention the lovely fresh air and tranquility of the countryside.  If you are interested and want to know more then do not hesitate in contacting Shirley Milligan.

Apologies for the sound quality on this video – the camera microphone exagerated
the wind noise and as this was our first outdoor video we didn’t realise this would be a
problem!
Special thanks to Ann Eccleston for her donation of the garden shed. It required some timber
for the floor and felt for the roof but Patricia Smylie did some arm twisting at both B&Q and
Haldane Fisher and persuaded them to donate the bits that were needed.
A special thanks to Ann Eccleston’s son Damien who brought the shed to the allotment and constructed it, free of charge. Damien is a joiner by trade and if you need any joinery work
done Damien can be contacted on 07882262058 or by email at damoeccles@yahoo.co.uk
