Book Of Revelations

The hope of the people who struggle – a key to reading the Apocalypse

The Apocalypse follows on from the Acts of the Apostles. In a short time the Good News of Jesus had entered into the whole of the Roman Empire, Asia Minor, Greece and Italy. This was not an easy journey for the Church. There were many difficulties and much persecution. The Apocalypse was written by John to the persecuted communities to give them comfort and hope in a time of crisis.
The Book of Revelations is very difficult to understand. It is full of strange visions and symbolic figures and numbers. Revelations lifts the veil for the communities to understand what is happening and struggle on because God is with them.
